From March 15-April 25, 2021 this small BIA of just 90 businesses ran their second ShopHillcrest2Win campaign. Despite the lockdown we still managed to inspire $51,079 in incremental spending at local businesses. Additionally, $2,000 was raised for a local charity since we worked with the BIA on a unique prize structure to support Wychwood Open Door - a day-time drop-in centre that serves precariously housed and socially isolated people in Toronto's mid-town.

Highlights:

  • 2519 receipts submitted from 75 different businesses

  • Economic Impact: $51,079

  • Businesses who responded to our survey that would like to see this contest run again: 100%

The Junction is among the most marketing savvy and sophisticated BIAs in Toronto so there was never any doubt that ShopTheJunction2Win would be a huge success here. As expected, it generated $54,323 in incremental spending (despite ⅔ of the campaign running during lockdown between March 18-April 25, 2021). The gains in social followers and subscribers to the BIAs newsletter are the highlights of this campaign for the BIA.

Highlights:

  • 616 new Instagram followers and 72 new followers on Facebook

  • 435 new subscribers to the BIA’s newsletter

"This was one of the easiest, most effective marketing campaigns we've ever run and we got tremendously positive feedback from the community and our members. A highlight for sure is the 700 new followers between social media and opt-ins for our community newsletter. We are already planning to integrate ShopTheJunction2Win again into our holiday campaign this fall."

- Carol Jolly, Executive Director, The Junction BIA

Bloor West Village BIA is the oldest and one of the most respected BIAs in our country so we were delighted to work with this caring and connected community from November 8-December 19, 2020. With over 400 businesses nestled among a vibrant community of committed local shoppers, their campaign was as much a way to thank their loyal shoppers as it was an incentive to get them to shop more.

Highlights:

  • 4975 entries by 1499 community members

  • Economic Impact: $84,264

  • 75% of participants who said that the contest would have a lasting impact on their local shopping habits confirmed that they were in fact shopping more 5 months later because of new places they discovered or a renewed commitment to shopping local!

In Toronto Corso Italia is more than a street...it’s a way of life. That’s why we were so happy for an opportunity to usher back in a little bit of joy and playfulness to this community while businesses waited for the lockdown to be lifted in the spring of 2021. With so many businesses closed it was a great time to test the power of our Social Media strategy to engage the community and we were thrilled to hear that nearly 20% of people found out about the contest through Facebook and Instagram posts and ads.

"We lost our coordinator mid-way through this campaign and we were still able to execute it because it's a very easy program for the BIA. This is a deceptively simple idea yet very sophisticated on the back end and Mary and Kim never missed a beat while respecting my limited time as a business owner myself."

- Kevin McIntosh, Co-Chair, Corso Italia BIA

Fairbank Village is a small but mighty BIA of just 90 members in Toronto that was severely impacted for the past 3 years by the Metrolinx Crosstown. Despite the disruption of the construction, a great diversity of languages spoken around this BIA and few retail and restaurant options due to the pandemic, they managed to run a successful campaign from November-December 2020.

Highlights:

  • Over $40,000 ROI from combined incremental spending and projected future spend

  • Over 200 new social media followers and 166 new subscribers to BIA newsletter

  • 62% of participants said they expected to shop more in the future as a result of the contest making them “think local first”

Eglinton_tentcard.jpg

The Eglinton Way ran their first ShopLocal2Win campaign from March 22 - May 2, 2021. Despite the effects of the pandemic and the ongoing disruption due to the Metrolinx Crosstown construction they executed their campaign flawlessly and even inspired over 60% of participants to enter the contest 3 or more times in order to qualify for the Grand Prize. Eglinton is the first BIA to have issued all their prizes in the form of gift cards to local businesses to keep people spending in their community!

"People could not miss this promotion since it ran for 6 weeks. It created great visibility for the BIA and made the community and our members very happy because the business owners also directly win every week! It's easier to engage the members."

- Lais Fabricio, BIA Manager, The Eglinton Way
